This week we generated a piece of concept art using a 3D model that we made. I generated my ideas based on different animals to help with the Goldilocks effect of not making something too absurd. I based my vehicle on the elevation of the body of a scorpion as well as the plating of a scarab beetle. This combined with tank tracks to help manoeuvre through the sands of the desert. I am rather happy with my concept and I don't believe that my design is too out there and obnoxious. I was hoping with the animal reference for the vehicle it would help tie the design to reality more and hopefully make it something that not many people had seen, making it not boring. I tried to use people to help showcase the sheer scale of the vehicle and make it appear like it can fit multiple passengers. I am rather happy with the block mesh of the vehicle that I made and I think that The background of the image although too saturated places the vehicle in the correct location. The main downfall with the piece surrounds the vehicle's material as It doesn't look like an actual vehicle material. I struggled with getting that in-between of matte and glossy that most vehicles have. I tried to generate rust along the side and include scratches to show wear and tear however I think these ruin the look and make the material less correct as they stand out on the body. Although I am happy with the block mesh I think I just need to focus on some material studies so that I can understand how to work with them from now on. I think taking real-life reference will help me with these studies as I can see for myself the reactions that the material undergoes in different circumstances.
